A co-authored paper on stabilizing antibodies and viruses with infusion-based solutions has been published in the Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering.
The study experimentally demonstrated that a solution based on parenteral nutrition reduced antibody aggregation and maintained viral infectivity. These findings can inform formulation development aimed at improving the stability of biologics during manufacture and storage.
We assisted with the analysis and interpretation of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in this study. The analysis showed that, in the infusion-based solution, hydrophobic interactions involving antibodies were weaker and the antibodies were more likely to remain dispersed without aggregating. These findings provided insight into the mechanism of antibody stabilization through molecular motions.
